The interior design was inspired by the Japanese “wabi-sabi” philosophy, rediscovering the pleasure of simplicity and antiquity in an incredibly harmonious atmosphere where authenticity is the key.
An important aspect in the furnishing of Otium – casadegliescursionisti is definitely recycling/reuse, which results in fewer “catalog” furniture and material choices in favor of items found, repaired and relocated in the environment itself.
From furniture to lamps, from dishes to household items, the used materials blends with the new ones.
Wood, stone and ceramics as well as reused furniture rich in history and marked by time contribute to create unique environments in harmony with the surroundings.
The lodge provides a total of 12 beds.
The lodge has 3 rooms arranged on two floors.
From each room you can enjoy a unique view of Castrovalva, the Sagittario Valley and the surrounding mountains.
On the first floor there is the double room (2 single beds on request) and the four-seater room (ideal for families). On the second floor there is the six-person dormitory. The rooms are comfortable, cozy, equipped with heating and all different.
Hairdryers, hair straighteners and electric heaters CANNOT be used inside.
For the purpose of healthy sense therapy, we have chosen not to install TV in the rooms and the lodge.
Kettles and mugs are provided in each room to freely enjoy a tea or herbal tea.
The price includes breakfast, sheets (or sheet bag) and towels.
This room is named after Escher’s 1956 work.
The room “came to life” from a wrought-iron bed found in a flea market and the other furnishings are placed around.
If requested, it is possible to have a king-size bed (with its mattress) or a single bed.
This room is named after Escher’s extraordinary work of 1939. It can accommodate 4 people and is ideal for families or a small group of friends. It consists of a wooden bunk bed which is custom-designed and built into the wall and a king size bed (built from pallets).
If requested, the king-size bed can also be arranged as two single beds. The room includes a basket supplied with all the necessary for a picnic.
The room is a six-seater dormitory that takes its name from Escher’s work of 1958. In the background of the work there are Morrone and Maiella Mountains. The work is the most appropriate choice because of the spectacular view of Castrovalva, the Sagittario Valley and the surrounding mountains that you can enjoy from the room.
In the center of the dormitory there is a floor-to-ceiling floor lamp, which was found in a vintage design store, surrounded by 3 beautiful and solid bunk beds designed and manucrafed exclusively for this room. The relaxation corner in the room is ideal for relaxing body and mind.
Your pets are welcomed in our lodge. Accommodations need to be arranged in advance with the manager and the additional costs for each dog, each night, are the followings: €10.00 for small size, €15.00 for medium size, €20.00 for large size. Food and water bowls, sleeping crib will be provided.
We reserve the right to not accept reservations different from what was agreed on the phone.
It is the space of conviviality. We wanted to recreate an intimate and familiar environment to make our guests feel like at home.
For the furniture, we chose a combination of new and antique, vintage and reused elements made of both natural and stained wood.
With the warm weather, we prepare a large outdoor area dedicated to breakfasts (provided by us) and any other meals you may prepare on your own. It is the ideal setting to enjoy panoramic views of Castrovalva and the Sagittario Valley.
The breakfast is included in the price of accommodation and is served between 8 and 9:30 a.m. If you have particular requirements please inform us and we will arrange it.
We do our best to use mainly organic foods and local products. We have different kinds of tea (green or red, flavored and decaffeinated), infusions, as well as coffee, barley and chicory, milk, vegetable milk, fruit juices, bread, butter, homemade jams, muesli, cookies and cakes.
The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary items and a refrigerator at your disposal for storing food.
The use of the kitchen for lunch and dinner costs € 5 per person per day.
If requested, we can prepare lunch and/or dinner with traditional Abruzzi dishes and mainly local products.

During the warm season we serve breakfast on the terrace in front of the lodge to start the day in the best possible way.
When the cold season comes, we serve our breakfasts inside in front of the warmth of the fireplace.

We do not provide restaurant service at the lodge but we will be happy to suggest restaurants in the area best suited to your needs.
If you don’t feel like taking the car, you could inform us in advance and we could prepare a traditional Abruzzese meal using mainly local products.
Or you can arrange it yourself. From September to July the kitchen is available to guests to use at an additional cost per night.
The outdoor areas of Otium – casadegliescursionisti lodge are one of our strengths. There are several spaces where you can relax, enjoy the silence, read one of the books of our library, or just spend time with friends, surrounded by the chirping of birds and always far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Otium – casadegliescursionisti lodge can boast a small outdoor garden designed and maintained by Vanessa that is totally integrated with the natural environment all around. You will find plant varieties from the Maiella National garden centre that can be found also locally, so as to create a continuum between the garden and the wilderness.
To complete the garden there is a beautiful handcrafted wrought-iron greenhouse designed not only for the well-being of plants, but also to recreate a comfortable space where you can spend some relaxing moments. In fact, inside there is a small table with chairs inside, so that you can relax while sipping hot tea when the temperatures and weather conditions are not the most favorable to stay outside.
Outside there is a small vegetable garden for guests to freely enjoy its products and use them for cooking.
In front of the lodge there is a terrace with a stone floor and two tables of 4m each designed for convivial dining.
The first table, placed under the wooden gazebo, is used for lunch. The second table, located in front of the lodge, is used for breakfast and dinner.
There is a second terrace at the top of the lodge for guests who prefer more privacy.
The rocky walls that surround the lodge are valuable and host spontaneous blooms typical of rocky environments such as Centaurea scannesis: an exclusive endemism from the Sagittarius Gorge.
To enjoy the sun quietly, we have equipped the outdoor spaces with sun loungers and deck chairs, and during summer evenings, you can relax under the starry sky while sipping an excellent glass of Abruzzo wine.
Outside there are also many benches or gathering spots to stay in the open air and enjoy the day even without leaving our facility.
